Fr. Rodolfo Casals, SJ, was born in Yonkers, New York and grew up along the Hudson Valley eventually moving to Columbia, Tennessee where he attended Columbia State Community College. He then accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in physics. While in the Navy he served on several warships based out of Japan, returned to the Naval Academy as an instructor and Company Officer. He joined the Jesuits in 2006. During Jesuit formation, Fr. Casals ministered to patients in hospitals and inmates in jails, taught physics at Xavier High School in New York City, and earned a master’s degree in philosophy at Loyola University Chicago and Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California. Fr. Casals was ordained in 2017. Since ordination, he has been assigned to Our Lady of Mount Carmel – St. Benedicta Parish on Staten Island, and St. Thomas More Parish in Atlanta. Fr. Casals joined the vocation team in 2018.
